Birthday Reflections: 5 Steps for Daily Richness

Birthday Reflections: 5 Steps for Daily Richness

Birthdays are special! The Sun’s return inspires our Spirit with new thoughts, ideas and magic for the year to come, and our conscious participation only enhances it. We can see our birthday as just another number, or regard it as a magical time of renewal and recommitment to our Self, the continued development of our full potential.

Here are five life lessons and or rituals that have served me well. I hope they help you along in your journey. Thanks so much for being a part of mine.

1. Embody gratitude as a daily practice.

A ritual around gratitude can be a gratitude journal, silent morning prayer, giving thanks for five people and things before getting out of bed. Simply be grateful for even the smallest things. When I am operating from a place of gratitude, anxiety, fear, and insecurity have no room in my soul.

2. Daily mindful walk.

This is a mindfulness technique, an excellent way to clear the mind of clutter and restore a sense of focus.  It is also a great excuse to get out into nature. Several studies have shown that taking a break to look at or be in nature can have a rejuvenating effect on the brain, helping to free the mind when feeling stuck and boosting levels of attention.

3. Meditate daily.

Meditation gifts awareness to understand one's self by increasing self-awareness. Most simply, sitting for just a few minutes of meditation is an oasis of calm and relaxation that we rarely find in our lives these days. And that, in itself, is enough.

4. Set intentions for the year ahead.

An intention is a guiding principle for how you want to be, live, and show up in the world—during meditation, yoga or any area of your life. Ask yourself, what matters most to you?

5. Be generous.

Giving (dana) is an essential Buddhist practice. A practice focusing on  generosity and openness, one's capacity to embrace others with compassion and love. Generosity was a New Year's Resolution for me this year. I believe you get what you give. So I've been trying to be more generous with my time, energy, money, etc. It feels good to give to others, and I've witnessed the more I give the more opportunities come my way!

Hope you have been inspired to try one or all of these steps in your daily life!  Would love to hear your feedback in the comments below.

Shine on in love,
