Aguas Frescas translates to “cool waters" and is a Mexican tradition with roots in centuries-old Aztec culture. These are made from watermelon and lime. This refreshing beverage, is perfect for a hot, summer day.
Recipe makes four servings.
INGREDIENTS
4 cups of fresh watermelon chunks in juice
½ cup water
2 tablespoons lime juice
3 tablespoons sugar or can substitute honey
Lime wedges and mint leaves for garnish
METHOD
1. Add the watermelon, water, lime juice, and sugar to a blender and blend on high speed until smooth. There will still be some very small pureed chunks.
2. Next, strain the watermelon agua fresca through a strainer. Thoroughly chill the agua fresca in the refrigerator before serving it.
3. Dip a glass in lime juice and then sugar to make a sugared rim. You can also use salt.
4. Chill the drink and then serve it in the sugared glass with a lime wedge and mint.
Store in fridge covered for up to four days.
